| The second important issue in maintaining any effective maintenance program is the immediate attention and action when spots are noticed or spills occur. It is imperative that any remedial process be performed as soon as possible. Any time delays could have serious consequences with respect to the sucessful eradication of the damage to delicate fibres. There should be at least one person on staff who has the ability and training to properly address this situation, and a spot removal kit should be located on the premises at all times.
Spot Removal Kits:
A well stocked spot removal kit should include the following items:
- a carpet shampoo or detergent solution for removal of water based spots
- a solvent for greasy spots (1.1.1. Trichloroethane)
- chewing gum remover (freeze or solvent type)
- specific spot removers for ink, fruit drinks, coffee etc. (see guide)
- white absorbent cloth or paper towels for mopping up spills |
